Poll position

I am using this spot for discussing the new polls on the side.
I am genuinely curious about the why's and wherefore's of the reasons people think the way they do on these issues.
(You can choose multiple answers)
Please try to be nice in your comments.

Update: I redid the 'hate' poll. If you already voted on it, you'll need to revote.

You can only pick one on the hate question. For the record, I think Hate is an orientation and it isnot OK.

I waffled on the hate poll. Not on the orientation/choice question. In one of his books, Wayne Dyer says we can control our feelings -- if we pay attention we can see that our feelings are always immediately preceded by thoughts, and we can control our thoughts. That makes a feeling a choice, in my book.

It was the okay/not okay part on hate that was the hardest of all four questions for me. I finally voted "Okay". I think that hatred does damage inside us, deep inside ourselves. The translation of the Lord's Prayer in the Anglican NZ Book of Prayers (the red one) says, "In the hurts we absorb from one another, forgive us," and that's why -- we damage ourselves with hatred. Acting out our hatred, pouring it out onto others, in thought, word or deed -- THAT's not okay, again, in my book. But if you want to spend your time and energy hating, and you stop before it touches anyone else, I guess that's fine with me.

Thanks for making me think about it, Roland.

I'm waffling on both polls, so do be hard on yourself.
I have always had a bad temper.
Is that my orientation, and I have to give into it, or do I have a choice?
I answered that hate (not anger, mind you, that is a different thing) is not okay.
But I don't know how to answer the orientation/choice part.

And I'm glad your able to wrestle with it. Some people can't ever seem to get that far. They just give an answer and say, "Voila!"
Just believe me when I say your not the only one wrestling.

"Homosexuality is:"

Why is that even a poll question? Unless you are pointing out that hate and homosexuality have something in common...

Sorry, just confused are why it's in the same subject. Didn't see any posts regarding this.

I have heard a lot of people make the comparison.
I'm actually doing this more for myself than anyone else.
I am trying to understand if others view them as equal things or different things.
Whether people view it as sin or not sin.
Whether we are born with it and it is part of our makeup or not.
There is no post on it. I'm just trying to see where things are at on it.
I lean toward thinking both are a choice and not okay.
But, since I have had problems with my temper, I'm trying to figure out if its something I was born with or just picked up because it wasn't nipped in the bud, so to speak.

Well, I'm sure you know how I voted....

Homosexuality is a choice.

Hate is a choice.

For the record....

Adultery is a choice.
Stealing is a choice.
Lying is a choice.
Not keeping the Sabbath is a choice.
Having other god's before God is a choice.
Coveting is a choice.
Murder is a choice.
Not honoring your mother and father is a choice.
Taking the Lord's name in vain is a choice.
Making a graven image is a choice.

We all choose to sin or not to sin.

I did not even see the second poll question, I was lost at what the conversation was about.

I re-examined it.

I did not like the choices that I had though :)

Choices are difficult things.
Whenever we make the choices you listed, it is out of desire to please self, usually.

I don't like the limitations of the choices I gave either.
But I wasn't sure how else to put them up.
Maybe I made a bad choice?
Or was it something I did because I had not choice?

I could really roll with that opening but I will choose not too.

Of course, that is if I really have a choice and am not mandated to type that.

The homosexuality poll aspect could go in numerous ways though.

Even from the slight difference, the orientation aspect or choosing to act on the orientation.
